Overview of the Physician Assistant Review Course

Part One - The Preliminary Assessment

The first step for registered participants new to the Western University Physician Assistant Course is to assess their knowledge strengths and weaknesses. The Preliminary Assessment was designed to do just that, by providing an online competency-based assessment. This exhaustive assessment is over 100 questions long, and samples all of the major areas that are tested in the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination.

Part Two - The Individualized Study Plan

The Physician Assistant Review Course has been designed to optimize learning through a powerful combination of competency-based assessment, individualized curricular planning, and interactive learning. Based on the results of the Preliminary Assessment, a personalized curriculum is generated for each participant. The curricular plan ensures that the learner focuses his or her study efforts on those areas that need it most.

Part Three - The Review Modules

Once the participant's individualized study plan has been generated from the Preliminary Assessment results, review begins in earnest. There are a total of 18 distinct Modules, each containing a number of Review Concepts. A combination of RealAudio-based lectures and professionally-prepared learning materials are used to present the review content in a self-paced format. At the conclusion of each Review Concept, there is a short review quiz to reinforce the material. The results of these review quizzes are used to update the Individualized Study Plan above (in the Quiz Score column), so that participants can easily track their own progress.

Part Four - The Final Exam

After reviewing the areas identified as needing study based on the Preliminary Assessment, the participant can then take a comprehensive final exam. The administration of this exam is very similar to that for the Preliminary Assessment, but the questions are completely different. Once the completed exam is electronically submitted, a detailed performance report is generated so that participants can reassess their readiness for the certification exam. If there are areas of study that still need work, the participant can revisit the relevant Review Concepts again to strengthen those areas.
