- Incidence/prevalence:
- 25% of children
- Increased risk as adults for hyperlipidemia
- Risk factors:
- Parent's total cholesterol levels
- Family history of CAD
- Diet high in fat and cholesterol
- Obesity
- Total cholesterol screening:
- Acceptable: < 170 mg/dL
- Borderline: 170-199 mg/dL
- Serious: > 200 mg/dL
- Full lipid panel if total cholesterol > 200 mg/dL
